Thwarted Aspirations

sets of porch steps for Houses 2 and 3 in progress
Sooo close, and still not done with the front porches. The front porches for House 1 and House 3 are totally complete, done, ready to connect as soon as there are houses to attach them to.

Those two porches went together smoothly and exactly as planned.

The porch for House 2? Don't get me started. There's something really wrong with the fit of the ceiling, and it must be a column height irregularity problem. I got so frustrated with it today (so close to done!!) that I finally gave up and put it away. It needs a fresh perspective later.

2.8 completed front porches

House 2 is hiding in the background.

A friend, an engineer, of course, asked me a set of questions about the process of this project, and I realized that I hadn't really laid that out, so in the next few days, I'll backtrack a bit and describe it in more detail, starting with the measuring and custom-laser-cutting iterations with the fantastic Susan Karatjas at SDK Miniatures. And a tip of the hat as well to Templewood Miniatures, for helping at the last minute with printing the leaded glass windows (a mission creep element, for sure) and the wonderful Jeff for drawing them. More on all that soon. Tomorrow, ice porches. May they go more quickly!
